Components of problem-based learning are presented by Arends, including:
A. Authentic issues. Problem-based learning models organize real issues that are socially important and beneficial to learners. The problems facing learners in the real world can not be answered with a simple answer.
B. Interdisciplinary focus. Intended to learners to learn structural thinking and learn to use various scientific perspectives.
C. Authentic observation. It is intended to find a real solution. Learners are required to analyze and define the problem, develop
hypotheses and make predictions, collect and analyze information, carry
out experiments, make inferences, and draw conclusions.
D. Product. Learners are required to make the product of observation. Product can be paper that is described and demonstrated to others.
E. Collaboration. Can encourage joint investigation and dialogue to develop thinking skills and social skills.
